It all began in March, of 2014 when Marcus began a health quest. It had been 3 years since he fell victim to some health complications. With one video about changing to a plant-based lifestyle, he decided to take charge of his health and take the meaning of a quality of life seriously; there was no turning back from that point on. Karina took this information and began to research where our food comes from. One video about factory farms and then on to “the best speech you will ever hear” was the eye opener for her.
After 7 years of experimenting with food, activism and education, Conscious Kitchen was no longer a lingering idea, but now a physical and spiritual concept that will be shared with anyone who wishes to know more. Food brings us together; it binds us on a level that is deeper than just what we put in our bodies to feed our hunger. It is the point where we meet to share, to laugh, to cry, to forgive, and to create. When we share our food with others, we are sharing a piece of ourselves, of who we are.
In our fast-moving world, however, we have lost sight of our relationship with food. We have forgotten its timeline. The relationship with food is almost nonexistent, yet we demand so much more. Our current food system is taxing on our environment, health and the resources utilized to raise animals is a method that is no longer sustainable. Currently, people think that they may be aware of what the essence of food is, or what it is supposed to be. This is where we come in. Our food is meant to make a statement, to teach and to be enjoyed just as much as it is to serve its primal purpose without the cruelty.
In our kitchen, consciousness is the all-encompassing purpose. We want to feed you with what the earth provides. The technology of food has evolved to a point where the average person will not be able to differentiate between a piece of meat or seitan (replacement for meat made from plants and dough). Mock meat or imitation meat originates from ancient China and Japan, to accommodate strict vegetarians and Buddhist monks. This birth of mock meat has evolved to a cuisine that is no longer unique to vegans. At Conscious Kitchen we want to share our delights with you, while nurturing your higher consciousness and keeping your bellies full!
